Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) is like a superhero for everyday life! It’s all about helping people of all ages overcome challenges and thrive in their daily activities. We work with people of all ages and abilities, assessing their unique needs and goals and developing personalised treatment plans that may include activities of daily living, goal-based activities, assistive devices, and environmental modifications.

The aim is to enable our clients to improve their quality of life and participate in daily activities that are important to them.

Common Diagnoses we work with

A diagnosis is not required to start therapy. In fact, many families come to us long before any assessments are underway. If you notice your child is finding certain tasks or environments difficult, or you simply feel they need extra support, we can begin working with them immediately. Our role is to help your child build confidence, independence and skills — regardless of whether a formal diagnosis is involved.

Developmental Assessments

A developmental assessment in occupational therapy is an evaluation process that assesses an individual’s skills and abilities in relation to their developmental stage. This assessment can help identify areas where an individual may be facing challenges or delays in their development and determine suitable interventions and treatment strategies. Our therapists may utilise different tools and techniques, including standardised tests, observations, and interviews with the individual and their family members, to conduct developmental assessments. The primary aim of a developmental assessment is to support individuals in reaching their full potential and achieving optimal functioning in their daily lives.

Functional Capacity Assessments

A functional capacity assessment (FCA) is a type of evaluation conducted by our occupational therapists to determine an individual’s ability to perform specific activities related to their work or daily living. The assessment typically involves a series of tests and measurements that assess an individual’s physical, cognitive, and behavioral abilities, as well as any limitations or challenges they may face. The goal of an FCA is to identify an individual’s functional capabilities, as well as any areas where they may require additional support or accommodations to perform daily activities safely and effectively. The results of an FCA can be used to inform the development of a personalised treatment plan to help individuals improve their functional capacity and achieve their goals.

Early Intervention

Early intervention in occupational therapy involves identifying and treating developmental delays or disabilities in children as soon as possible. Occupational therapists specialising in early intervention work with babies, toddlers and pre-school age children to assess their development and provide personalised interventions to help them reach their milestones. The aim is to promote development and enhance their abilities to participate in daily activities at home, school and in the community. Early intervention services may include sensory integration therapy, play-based therapy, caregiver education and training, and assistive technology.
